Derwent Voices

Derwent Voices is a friendly community choir based at Blackhall Mill Community Centre in the Derwent Valley. Bex Mather and Katherine Zeserson take turns to lead the sessions.

Now is a great time to come along to a session to see if you’d like to sing with us. You don’t need to be a confident singer; we learn in a variety of ways using a range of resources including learning ‘by ear’, with lyric sheets, or with music notation for those who are comfortable with it and/or are learning how to read music notation. The emphasis is on enjoying singing and being together, there is always a warm atmosphere and plenty of laughter.

The main hall in Blackhall Mill Community Centre is a great space to sing in with a ‘kind’ acoustic. It feels roomy with lots of height and windows and doors that can be opened for good ventilation (when the temperature outside allows).

We will be meeting on the following Saturday mornings 10:30am - 12:30pm in the Autumn term:

6th September (Bex)

20th September (Katherine)

4th October (Bex)

18th October (Bex)

1st November (Katherine)

15th November (Bex)

29th November (Katherine)

13th December (Bex possibly joined by Katherine)

Where: Blackhall Mill Community Centre, River View, NE17 7TQ.

When: Saturday Mornings 10:30 am - 12:30 pm (with a tea break!)

Printing and Resources: We'd like to ask those who have a printer to print their own musical scores/lyric sheets or bring them on a tablet/device. We will bring a few spare copies for those who don't have access to a printer.

Members can ask us for the password to access the resources which can include lyrics, recordings and musical scores. Please email us at info@mouthfulway.co.uk if you’d like to join.

Fee: The fee for attending each session is £6.00 paid in cash on the day or you can ask for our bank details if you prefer. We also welcome donations for those who can and would like to pay more for the sessions. Please talk with us if this rate causes any barrier to you coming along. We now also have an annual membership fee of £10.

As Covid has not ‘gone away’ we request that everyone be considerate of each other by not attending sessions if you’ve any cold symptoms or have been in close contact with someone with Covid.

The choir has an active committee that leads in organising and sustaining the choir.
